The Bath Property Awards Judges
Here are our impeccably independent Judges, they are solely responsible for deciding all the Winners. They will give time to go through all the Finalists’ nominations with care.
Claire Smith / Partner, BuroHappold Engineering
Claire is a partner at the engineering consultancy BuroHappold. She has lived in Bath since 1988 when she came to study Structural Engineering at the University of Bath, she joined BuroHappold on graduating in 1992. Founded in 1976 in Bath in a small office in Gay Street, BuroHappold is now an international, integrated engineering consultancy operating in 21 locations worldwide, with 60 partners and over 1,700 employees. Locally BuroHappold is proud to be engineering the new BANES development at South Quays and the Abbey Footprint project.
Fiona McNulty / Property Lawyer and Evening Standard Property Columnist
Having qualified as a solicitor in 1983 Fiona has been a residential property lawyer since 2003. She is the Legal Expert for Homes & Property Evening Standard and has been so since 2007. In her weekly column she deals with reader's property related issues.
George Ferguson / Architect, City Imagineer and Former Mayor of Bristol
George Ferguson is a British politician, former architect and entrepreneur, who served as the first elected Mayor of Bristol from 2012 to 2016. From his Bristol based practice Ferguson Mann Architects, he founded the UK wide group of architects, Acanthus, in 1986. He was also a founder of the Academy of Urbanism during his presidency of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Lisa Howells / Sales Director, Curo
Lisa has more than 25 years’ experience in the residential property sector. She joined Bath-based Curo in 2015 to spearhead the organisation’s new homes, shared ownership and leasehold sales programme. Lisa is also a non-executive board member for a housing association in Wales.
Lydia Fay / Property Developer
Lydia is an interior designer and property developer with a degree in the History of Art and Architecture. She has worked for developers in London doing warehouse conversions and new builds by Piers Gough the architect. In Bath, she renovates and restores listed buildings.
Richard Cherry / Former Chief Executive, Countryside Properties
Richard has worked in the housebuilding and property industry for 36 years. He was formerly chief executive of the Partnerships business at UK house builder Countryside Properties which has won numerous design awards including the Sterling prize for architecture. Countryside will build nearly 5,000 homes this year. Richard is passionate about creating sustainable places for people of lasting design quality. He lives in Lansdown Crescent in Bath with his wife Amanda and they have six grown up children.
Stephen Emmitt / Professor, University of Bath
Professor Stephen Emmitt is an architect and Head of Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath. Stephen worked in practice prior to becoming an academic and is experienced in a wide range of building types. His areas of specialism relate to design management and architectural technology.
